Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask about RoadBook+: the roadbook, creating one with AI, sharing it, pricing and professional use.
General
1Do I need an account?
No. Open or create a roadbook and use it offline on this device without any account. An account only adds encrypted sync across devices and sharing links.
2How do I create a roadbook?
Three ways: drop your confirmations (e-mails, PDFs) and let the built-in AI guide write it; describe the trip to your own AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini…) with our prompt and open the file it returns; or build it by hand in the editor.
3Does it work without network?
Yes. Once opened, the whole roadbook (programme, bookings, tickets, notes) is stored on the phone and works offline, as an installable app. Tickets are rendered as scannable codes from their payload, no PDF needed.
4Where is my data?
On your device. Nothing is uploaded when you open a roadbook. If you enable sync or sharing, the roadbook is encrypted on your device before it leaves it; we store ciphertext only and cannot read it.
5Can my travellers follow the roadbook on their phone?
Yes: one private link per person, read-only or editing, without an account. Children get a surprise mode that hides the coming days.
6What is the “open format”?
A RoadBook is a plain file in a documented, versioned, MIT-licensed format (roadbookformat.org). That is what lets any AI or travel tool create one, and what keeps the file yours. You never need to touch it to use RoadBook.
7Is it free?
Yes for travellers: reading, following and editing roadbooks on your device is free. The Editor plan (from €5/month) adds encrypted sync and sharing links; the €9 and €29 plans include 1 M and 5 M AI tokens a month, or bring your own API key. Companies have a dedicated offer: see Pricing.
Creating with AI
1Do I need an account or a paid RoadBook+ plan?
No. Opening a RoadBook is free and requires no account. You use your own AI assistant (free or paid) to create the file; RoadBook+ is the viewer. Accounts are only needed for optional end-to-end encrypted sync and sharing.
2Which AI assistants can create a RoadBook?
Any capable assistant that can read a web page and output JSON: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Mistral, Perplexity, local models… The format is plain JSON with a public specification; no plugin or partnership is required. Results vary by model; the validator loop fixes most issues in one round.
3The assistant answered with text instead of a file.
Ask it to “return only the JSON, no markdown fences”, then copy the JSON and use Paste JSON. Some assistants can also attach files directly (“create a downloadable file”).
4The player says the file is not a valid RoadBook.
Use Copy errors for AI: the paths and messages are written to be pasted back to the assistant, which returns the corrected full JSON. The online validator offers the same loop and a ready-made repair prompt.
5Can I keep my real booking numbers and tickets?
Yes: paste your confirmations to the assistant so it fills the bookings, references and ticket payloads; or add them later in the player. Never ask the AI to invent numbers: the prompt forbids it.
6Can I see the result directly in ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes, with the RoadBook connector: add
https://roadbook.plus/api/mcp as a connector (ChatGPT: Apps & connectors → Developer mode; Claude: Settings → Connectors) and the assistant can validate and preview the roadbook inline, with a link that opens it on your phone. Without the connector, each version still comes with a one-click roadbook.plus/#rb=… link. Details on the developers page.7Long trips (2–3 weeks)?
Ask for the skeleton first (trip, travellers, bookings), then the days in chunks (“days 1–7”, “days 8–14”) with stable ids, merge, and validate once. Details in the AI generation guide on roadbookformat.org.
Pricing
1What is free, exactly?
Everything on one device: opening, following, creating and editing roadbooks, with your own AI key if you want. Paying starts when you want sync across devices and sharing links (Editor), or AI tokens from us.
2What is the difference between Sync, Essential and Pro?
Same features (encrypted sync, private links, roles, surprise mode); they differ by the AI tokens included each month: none, 1 million, 5 million. Change tier any time.
3Can my travellers pay nothing?
Yes: following a shared roadbook is free and needs no account. Only the person who syncs and shares needs an Editor plan.
4How is the business licence priced?
On the number of users, roadbooks delivered per year and options (white label, integration, support). Tell us about your case.
Professionals
1Do travellers need to create an account?
No. A private link opens the roadbook in the browser on any phone; it can be added to the home screen and works offline. An account is only useful for people who edit several roadbooks.
2Can we generate roadbooks from our own tools?
Yes. RoadBook is an open, documented JSON format with a schema and a validator; your back office, your AI or a script can produce the file. We help with the mapping; see the developers page and the MCP connector.
3What about our clients’ data?
A roadbook opened from a link is stored on the traveller’s device; shared roadbooks are encrypted end to end, our servers only hold ciphertext. You stay the data controller for your clients; we are a blind processor.
4Can we keep sending a PDF too?
Of course: the roadbook can complement the PDF at first. Most teams stop sending the PDF once travellers have tasted the phone version.
